The college years are full of first-time experiences, so you may find yourself struggling with a variety of stressors. These can include:

Time Management

Creating Structure

Living with Roommates

Being Independent

Money Management

Distractions

Academic Challenges

Relationships

Communication

Making Friends

Sleep Issues

Saying "No"

Substance Use

Low Motivation

Inability to Concentrate

Isolation

Balancing Responsibilities

Disordered Eating

If you are struggling, you are not alone. The results of the American College Health Association's (ACHA) Spring 2023 national survey of over 55,000 undergraduate students revealed that approximately 76% were experiencing moderate to serious psychological distress. The survey also found that:

  • 79% of students reported experiencing moderate or high stress levels within the last 30 days.

  • 53% met criteria for experiencing loneliness.

  • 31% met criteria for suicidal ideation, while 3% reported attempting suicide in the past year.

  • 13% had intentionally injured themselves within the year.

It's OK to ask for help.

Reasons why this Therapy Intensive may be right for you:

  • You just need some guidance before school starts and don't know what to expect from traditional therapy

  • You aren't sure if you need ongoing therapy sessions or how much it will cost

  • You don't want to have to start over with a new therapist but could use the extra support before the semester starts

  • The college counseling center may have a waitlist or limit the number of sessions they offer

  • Your schedule is so full that it's difficult to fit in regular therapy sessions

  • You have convinced yourself that your problems aren't that important and you don't want to be a burden

  • You can focus on exactly what is most important to you and prepare yourself mentally and emotionally for what's next

Let's visualize for a moment. Picture this:

You finish your Intensive experience feeling calm, confident, and ready for what's next. You have a plan of action in place to help you manage your time, balance your responsibilities, and navigate your social life. It still feels like a lot, but you trust yourself to ask for help when needed. You practice acting instead of reacting, and you stop personalizing everything that others say or do. It still feels uncomfortable to say no, but you begin to make decisions based on your values and intuition rather than people-pleasing. You feel hopeful. It's going to be a good year.
