Frequently Asked Questions
-
Will you write a recommendation for an emotional support animal? No, the American Counseling Association advises against this practice if a therapist does not have training or expertise in animal-assisted therapies. Since I do not have this type of training, I cannot make recommendations regarding animals for emotional support.
-
Can I do telehealth sessions with you if I'm not located in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Florida, or South Carolina?Unfortunately, no. When you get a driver's license, it is issued through your state but it allows you to drive wherever you want. Therapy licenses work differently. I hold therapy licenses in PA, DE, FL, and SC, so I am only allowed to work with clients who are physically located in those states during the session. Until there is a national license option, I can only see clients in those specific states.

How long are sessions?Sessions are 55 minutes long and take place weekly or every other week depending on your individual needs.

Do you accept insurance? No, I do not. Insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis for treatment, and I do not agree with labeling clients or potentially misdiagnosing them. If you have received a prior mental health diagnosis, please let me know and we can incorporate it into treatment. Another reason I do not accept insurance is to ensure client autonomy and privacy. You deserve to have control over your treatment. Insurance companies get to determine if services are "medically necessary" and can choose not to pay for your sessions. There's also the issue of changing insurance companies. Insurance plans are often provided by employers, so getting a new job can mean losing insurance or switching to a plan that requires switching therapists. This also happens when you turn 26 and are no longer eligible for dependent child coverage. By not using insurance, there's no need to worry about insurance companies dictating the length or type of therapy you'll receive. You may be able to use a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to pay for sessions. I am also considered an Out-of-Network (OON) provider, meaning that while I am not contracted with your insurance company, you may be eligible for partial reimbursement of services. Based on your insurance carrier’s policies and your plan, several factors determine how much you may be reimbursed. These factors include: The amount allowed for a therapy service based on what your insurance company would pay for an in-network therapist Your out-of-network benefit level Whether you have met your out-of-network provider deductible for the year Your coinsurance rate for out-of-network providers (the percentage of charges your insurance company expects you to pay) If you are hoping to be reimbursed for counseling, call the customer/member services number on the back of your health insurance card. Ask the following questions to verify OON coverage: Do I have out-of-network coverage for mental health services provided through telehealth? What is my yearly deductible? Has it been met or how much more until my deductible is met? How many sessions per year does my plan cover? How much does my insurance plan reimburse for an out-of-network provider for CPT codes 90834 (45 min session) and 90837 (60 min session)? Do I need prior authorization? Do I need approval from my primary care provider? How do I submit a superbill? Is there an online portal or do I have to mail or fax a copy? What is the time limit to submit a superbill? A superbill is a document, like an invoice or receipt, that outlines the services you received with your therapist. It must include the following information in order to be considered for reimbursement: Client name, address, and date of birth Therapist name, phone number, and email Therapist Tax ID and National Provider Identifier (NPI) Statement number and date issued to client A diagnosis and diagnosis code Service date, type, and code for reimbursement The fees that you paid If you have OON coverage and are eligible for reimbursement, a superbill will be provided to you upon request. If it is necessary for you to use insurance for therapy, I am happy to refer you to providers that I may know in your network. Sample superbill:

What age range do you work with?I generally see clients between the ages of 14 and 30 who identify as female.
-
Do you offer family therapy or couples counseling? No I do not. While I absolutely see the benefit in these types of sessions, they are not my area of expertise.
-
What can I expect at the first session? The intake session is a chance for me to gather information about what has been going on in your life and identify the issues you would like to address. It is also for you to ask me questions to make sure I'm the right therapist for you. Seriously, ask me as many questions as you need to determine if I'll be a good fit. If I'm not, that's OK. You absolutely need to vibe with your therapist to do good work.
